Uses: A valuable sand binding plant for erosion control in coastal dunes and sand drifts.
Requires very well-drained sands. Inflorescences of different sex and appearance are borne on different plants.
Cultural use: Leaves and stems used by indigenous peoples to weave bags and baskets.
