Uses: Small tree with rich purple burgundy foliage with sprays of purple plume like panicles in summer that gives it the common name of ' Smoke Bush'. Excellent contrast plant for gardens and rockeries. Also can be mass planted and clipped as a border or hedging. Heavy pruning may reduce flowering. Requires good drainage.
Can be propagated from seed, layering in Spring or from softwood cuttings.
