Araucaria bidwillii
Bunya Pine
Notes Uses: A large distinctive evergreen tree. Not suitable for smaller gardens. Grown as a plantation tree for use as timber.
Seed is a bush food and can be eaten raw, cooked or ground into a powder. Starchy and delicious, it has the texture of a waxy boiled potato with the flavour of chestnuts.
The germinating seed produces an underground 'earth nut' which has a coconut-like flavour.
Need to be wary of large falling cones.
