Common Hazel is a small tree best know for its edible nut. Plants are moneciuous with separate male and female flowers appearing on the same plant. Flowers appear in late winter and spring with males in long catkins. Nuts are eaten raw or used as an ingredient in cooking. Plant does not like strong coastal winds.  Prefers a moist well drained soil.
