Betula nigra 'Dura Heat'
Notes

Uses: The birch is often distinquished by the striking textured peeling bark of their trunks
Though popular in some areas of Adelaide, these are not an appropriate choice for the Adelaide Plains
During a couple of the recent dryer seasons many were lost.
They do require cooler, wetter conditions to be successful.
They also do better when the soil is acidic and non alkaline.
The betula are best suited to areas in the Adelaide Hills or wetter cooler regional areas where the conditions match their natural habitat.
The 'Dura Heat' variety is supposed to tolerate dryer soils.
They are a good tree when planted in clumps of three or more.
Can tolerate some pollution.
